The south side of the island is the sunniest side of Tenerife. This is because the south side of Tenerife faces Africa, where the sun shines most of the time. In the south, you have an average of 9 hours of sunshine a day in winter and 10 hours of sunshine a day in summer.

Best time to visit Tenerife

Because of its beautiful, warm, and sunny weather, Tenerife is a popular tourist destination all year. Tenerife's distinct climate is due to the north-eastern trade winds. These collect water vapour above the Atlantic Ocean, climb the Pico del Teide's northern slopes, and eventually trickle down in fine rain.

Temperatures vary because the Teide serves as a weather divide, separating two microclimates to the north and south.

Tenerife summer holiday

As the weather begins to warm up, the months of May through September are great for visiting the south of Tenerife. It entices visitors with its long, pleasant days and peaceful evenings. Even on the warmest summer days, a delightful cool sea breeze refreshes.

The months of May, June, and October are great for exploring Tenerife's north and east, as temperatures are mild and no rain is anticipated. Summertime temperatures will be higher in July, August, and September.

The winter season on Tenerife

If you are visiting Tenerife in the winter, it is best to stay in the south. Tenerife's winters are unusually warm, making it a popular time to visit, particularly in February, when the island hosts the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival. It is the world's second largest carnival, behind that of Rio de Janeiro, and is great for swimming and sunbathing.

Surfers go to the south coast in the winter to ride the enormous rollers. You may also view long-finned pilot whales and collect oranges in the spring. During the Christmas and Carnival seasons, rooms will be rather pricey.
